Uwik Uwik consists of Julia Lott (vocals), Susanne Becker (vocals, synthesizer), Ingo Renken (guitar), Martin Glos (baritone, bass) and Christian Ziegler (drums) from Oldenburg, Germany. Starting out with three people playing instrumental post-rock, singers Julia and Susanne joined after recording vocals on a song as a birthday present for drummer Christian. Ever since the quintet is complete. Their self-produced EP "Mimikry" perfectly documents this phase of transition. Four of the six titles are still instrumentals, the other two "Ask Stereolab" and "Disco" feature Julia's and Susanne's vocals. Uwik's music shines with a warm, harmonious sound, a sea of beautiful, sad melodies flowing out of guitars and a synthesizer. The drums, mostly played live with brushes, sometimes programmed, are reduced with a jazzy air. The English lyrics provide pictures from everyday life, little private stories, thoughtfully and very sensitively performed, often with vocals in harmony. Since "Mimikry," Uwik has progressed integrating, more and more vocals as well as further experiments with electronics. Their Schinderwies debut "Far'Fisima" (one side of a split single with Mikrofisch), features a Farfisa organ which Martin bought from a thrift store. 2004 is looking forward to Uwik's full length debut.
